Dragon Age 2, the second installment in this popular franchise, was developed by Bioware Edmonton Studio and published by Electronic Arts in March 2011, for PC, Mac, PS3, and Xbox platforms.
This is the story of Hawke, a human that leaves together with his family the battled lands of Ferelden and seeks refuge in the city of Kirkwall, on the other side of the sea. Hawke adventures are narrated by Varric, one of the hero's companions, and follows in detail his rise to power, from his first year as a mercenary to fame and glory.
Players can choose one of the three available classes: mage, rogue, or warrior, each with unique combat abilities and skills.
A new dialogue system, very similar to the one from Mass Effect 2, was implemented, giving the players more freedom in their actions. Each discussion can have different consequences, depending on the dialog choices made by the player, which gives the game a considerable amount of re-playability.
Compared to the first Dragon Age, the world in the second installment is smaller and some questing areas are revisited several times during the game.
The crafting system was also revamped, now everything being made by merchants.
Combat is more dynamic, thanks to the improved pre-defined tactical options, customizable for each combat situation. Anyway, old school players can disable this and manually control each character action.
The graphics were also improved, keeping similar system requirements as the previous game.
Dragon Age II reception was overall good, but it didn't reach the same amount of positive reviews as its predecessor.
